Course Description

Diploma in Pharmacy is an entry-level undergraduate diploma course in the field of Pharmacy. It is the minimum qualification to become a Registered Pharmacist in India, obtained following two-year of training. Students can enroll in the course after successfully completing higher secondary education in science stream with physics, chemistry and either biology or math's as subjects. After obtaining the diploma, registration with the pharmacy council is mandatory to become a registered pharmacist.

Admission

Eligibility for Admission

Candidate who have passed the Higher Secondary Exam (+2) of the Kerala State with Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Mathematics as optional Subjects and equivalent thereto are eligible to apply or V.H.S.C of Kerala from 1994-95 sessions with Group A and B only are considered as equivalent exam for admission to D.Pharm course. (Group A – N.C.E.R.T syllabus in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Group B – N.C.E.R.T syllabus in Physics, Chemistry and Biology)

Selection Criteria

Out of 60 seats available, 50% of seats will be merit seats and it will be filled up according to merit rank list published by LBS. The remaining 50% will be management seat. Selection & Admission to Management Quota for D.Pharm course will be done according to rank as per the merit list prepared on the basis of marks obtained for Physics, Chemistry and Biology/ Mathematics of the qualifying examination.

It is a 2 year full time course with each academic year spread over a period of not less than one hundred and eighty working days. Syllabus is designed in such a way that it include both practical and theory. There shall be an examination in the first year on the subjects of Part-I and an examination in the second year comprising the Part-II subjects. The course of study for D.Pharm Part-1 and D.Pharm part-II shall include the subjects as given in below.

Practical Training

After the completion of the course, the candidate will have to undergo 500 hours of practical training spread over a period of not less than 3 months in a Govt. Hospital or recognized institute approved for the purpose by Pharmacy Council of India.

Scope & Career

After finishing diploma successfully in pharmacy, the individual can register as a licensed pharmacist recognized by the PCI & Kerala State Pharmacy Council (KSPC). One will receive a license to open a medical store/ practice as registered pharmacist.
